Arriving on business from Los Angeles to New York, the commercial director of the advertising company Max (Wesley Snipes) decides to see his old gay friend Charlie (Robert Downey Jr.), who has AIDS. In the hotel cafe, he meets a charming woman Karen (Nastassja Kinski). Having missed the plane, he goes to a concert with Karen, after which he saves her from street robbers and spends a night of love with her, and in the morning flies home, where his wife Mimi (Ming-Na) and two children are waiting for him.
